Kaurna Wetlands 2 June 2013.

This mornings walk in the wetlands was a different one to normal as the recent rains had made low lying parts inaccessible so we walked to the south west corner where the overflow from the wetlands is taken down into the underground aquifers. The little dam wall was in spate, only the second time I have seen it so.
Several birds came to my attention also, so I recorded them as well as I could. A pair of Crested Pigeons, a Purple Crowned Lorikeet, New Holland Honeyeater.

The dam wall in full overflow and the pipes to the underground aquifers and an interested observer a White Faced Heron.

Also seen were Australian Black Duck with Sacred Ibis, White Egret and the always prevalent Red Wattlebird. A good day to be out early.

Kaurna Wetlands Dam.

At Kaurna Wetlands, 3 / 03 / 2013, the main feed-in dam was about one third of normal capacity, we need a good rain! Several Pacific Black Ducks still found something to interest them.

Kaurna Wetlands, 10 / 03 / 2013, water getting lower, where is the rain?

Kaurna Wetlands, 17 / 03 / 2013,  water getting lower still

Kaurna Wetlands, 31 / 03 / 2013, water still getting lower.

Kaurna Wetlands, 14 / 04 / 2013, water gone, just a layer of dried mud left!

Kaurna Wetlands, 28 / 04 / 2013, the rain finally arrived on 21 / 04 / 2013 and was so heavy the dog and I decided not to go for our customary walk in what is once again a wetland!
This series of images show the fall and rise of water in the  Kaurna Wetlands main feed-in dam over a 2 month period from 3 / 03 / 2013 to 28 / 04 / 2013.

I was out walking the dog this morning and came across a dragonfly and tried to get a good shot, this was as good as I was able to get.

As I attempted to photograph dragonflies this Black Fronted Dotterel arrived for a very brief visit and then alighted to join its mate.

I came across this empty 'honeycomb' nest a few moths ago but have not seen anything happening on several revisits, so I assume it was built then abandoned for reasons unknown.
